Ice Cream

It’s fine

I’ll be quiet now

Ice cream was different

But a good substitute

For moonshine

Something’s don’t blend well

One hundred eighty proof

Is one sip away from disaster

When seeking more

Than a comfortably numb

Momentary happy feeling

Realizing that happiness

Truly is the relativity of being

Whose definition varies

From person to person

Defined by a moment often repeating

Finding one’s spirit

Corked within a bottle

Lends way to the crossing

Of a particularly fine line

Effecting the erasing of memories

Good and bad

Removing the happy

Never replacing the sad

Which makes me appreciate

From the soulish depths of my heart

That beautiful young woman

Who saw the weight of the world

From a too often repeated moment

Bearing down upon my shoulders

And said “Let’s have ice cream”

The happiest moments often repeating

The relativity of being

The main ingredient in ice cream

Is happy

I’ll be quiet now

It’s fine

The Letter

Thirteen years later only just discovering

What needed to be known the day before

Events taking place all those years ago

Having never been able to come completely clean

The stain reached past the heart

To the fabric of my soul

Finding a difference between blood and oil

Is that a drop of one may look like a liter of another

And that a cross is not cut as beautifully as one is drawn

Somehow I knew you would find me

But that was not my intention

Really I am sorry that you did

I found the box

The one you were planning

To take and burry at the crossroads

That was such a dangerous game

And would have ended quite badly

My dark side paled in comparison to yours

But you always would listen before

This was the one time you would not

I could see beyond your wishes

There was no need for you to find the stars

They were seeking you in their time

Patience by virtue had never taken a soul

But a soul without it would surly

Fall to what evil lurks behind shadows

In realms not of this earth

You see I needed to go

I had stayed longer than planned

Just needing to be sure

You would arrive on time to your destiny

As did you for mine

There finally was an understanding

For your ability to love without condition

Short of knowing you let me feel it

That in itself was the most pleasant

Experience of my short life

It made me happy

When you set fire to the box

Even though my spirit was its only witness

I knew you would be angry for leaving you behind

And even though I didn’t want you to be there

Taking my last breath with you seemed right

The bandages were the sweetest gesture

The room was such a mess

Thank you for being there

And then eventually letting me find the light

Stars never come in the way we imagine them

But they do arrive at the precise time fate has called

They often move through our lives

Without such intimate contact

But every once in a while

One stops to make sure

That we arrive on time

The Reason

Day after catatonic day

No matter the weather

Sitting watching staring

In directions of unknown hope

Distant figures moving closer

Until tender gentle waking

Finding reason for existence

Just craving embellishment

Closer now than ever before

To being that person seen

In the deepest depths

Of dreams past present

And futures still to come

In the whisper of your voice

Love planted a seed

And in your touch a key

A key to unlock the chains

Which imprisoned a heart

There is a certain freedom

In the aura of your air

I breathed you in and found life

You gave me the liberty to be myself

I wasn’t broken when you found me

But you gave me the reason to wake

And stand up out of my own inhibitions

Finding the ability to love again

In a manner so all or nothing

There could never be recourse

Love defined itself in a way

That when I woke up

You were waiting for me

Thirty Seconds to Twelve

The clock stopped

But time did not

Shall we then

Wander about

Taking advantage

Of such non-committal luck

Or will continuum

Become damaged

By the sport

The sun rise and set

May just be the only

Time keeper we need

The clock breaks down time

Wasting it away

In shackles lying in decay

Controlling life

Morning noon and night

Time should be relative

Moving at its own pace

Unchecked by the chains

Of humanity

For they bring age

To the ageless

Binding conformity

Caging time and space

A continuum not meant to be

Revolt electromagnetic pulse

Off the grid unwinding springs

Its thirty seconds to twelve

The clock stopped

And time ran free
